Anne Marie viene da Washington, è una geek, ama il gelato alla Nutella e tiene un blog di viaggio. Ieri ha lasciato Vernazza ed è venuta in città, armata della Lonely Planet, per scoprire che gli alberghi di cui aveva il numero di telefono erano al completo. E dato che Genova è una “moderately big city” sceglie la prima delle due stazioni maggiori (Brignole) e si mette in cerca.

After an hour of popping into hotels and having them laugh me out of the reception (apparently there is some kind of “boat thing” happening this weekend and everyone is completely full), I decide perhaps it would be best to try the hotels near the other station.

Ma è fortunata e trova una stanza in via Balbi. E finalmente parte il giro turistico: come naviga la città qualcuno che non la conosce?

I’m stuck with only a few helpful facts from Lonely Planet and since it hasn’t planned out a walking tour for me, I don’t really know what to do with myself. So I head back to the train station. There I find a map and a woman who speaks English who draws out a basic little tour of the city. [...] But, it’s a lot harder to tour a city when you know nothing about it and all you have is a cartoonish map to navigate around with. [...]

I quickly stumble upon a whole network of streets that are extremely narrow and only open to foot traffic. It’s like a giant, permanent marketplace. People are selling everything from clothes to food to knick-knacks. [...] I soon notice that there are quite a few ladies with their bras showing….and no nylons…and really, really tall shoes – aughck!

Continuando a leggere il suo post di ieri scopriremo come è riuscita a trovare la strada per uscire dai caruggi e tornare in albergo dove ha avuto la conferma, un po’ sconcertata, che negli hotel italiani “non c’è nessun orologio”. E oggi, Milano!
