circospetto! genova da un altro punto di vista

I am always drawn back to the places where I lived and traveled. One of the journeys that will be stamped on my memory forever is my first visit to Genova in Italy last year.

Probably If I hadn’t seen “A Summer in Genova” movie (by Michael Winterbottom)I’d have never asked to take me there. The plot itself is not really awe-inspiring, rather commonplace; it’s a story of an American family seeking new lives after the sudden death of the mother (the film stars my favourite Colin Firth as the father).

What really impressed me was something else, it was the way the movie depicted the medieval city of Genoa, a dangerous underbelly of the mysterious new world, its crowded and narrow alleys which are like a maze or a labyrinth. It has a lot of energy as a matter of fact and you feel the city hadn’t been changed much over the centuries. I’d go further and say that the city played the leading position and was very good in this role.
